Minutes for October 16, 2013

 

     The October 16,  2013 meeting at Braun=s Ranch in Elkhart Lake was called to order by Sir Knight James Tenpas, at 7:50 p.m.  After roll call of officers, faithful comptroller, Sir Knight Chris Audino reported that the net balance on had at the last meeting was $3,359.68.  Thereafter, Faithful Friar, Fr. Dick Fleischman spoke in regard to Respect Life Month, in which he asked all present to keep our hearts open to the gift of life and respect for life in all stages.  He indicated this is important in our selfish culture, and challenged us to contribute to pro life causes, such as the ultrasound project, and to be a source of strength and comfort to those around us.   Other special reports were as follows:

Honor Guard

In the honor guard report, Sir Knight James Faller noted that the honor guard is up for re-certification on November 2, 2013.  He also advised members of a meeting at Mitchell Field on November 2, 2013 for an Honor Flight for U.S. soldiers. 

Purser

The purser=s report indicated a total of 45 members and guests were present at the October meeting. 

Area Coordinator

            No report.  No correspondence.

Charity Committee

            No report.

District Deputy

District Deputy Mike Johnson reported on working with Fr. Carlos in Sheboygan to establish a Spanish Council and get certification approved by the state.

Old Business

In old business, members were reminded to pick up raffle tickets for themselves and for other members who were unable to attend the October meeting.  Members were also reminded to consider attending the upcoming Fourth Degree Exemplification in Waukesha on April 12, 2014.  

New Business

The new business category included suggestions for new fund raising activities for the fourth degree.  One suggestion, from Sir Knight Larry Fouts, involved raising money to provide an Action Tread tank track chair for local soldiers injured in the line of duty.  These chairs, which cost $10,200.00-$15,000.00, enable military veterans with disabilities to engage in outdoor activities such as hunting.  Sir Knight Fouts suggested contacting the Wounded Warrior foundation to identify soldiers who may need a chair.  Thereafter, Sir Knight James Faller suggested renting or loaning the chair out to multiple soldiers as needed.  He also provided more information on selling Faye=s Pizza coupons, indicating there are seven types of pizza to sell, and the coupons do not expire.    Finally, Sir Knight Bob Jeske reported on plans to begin hosting regular fish fries as a fund raiser.

Council Reports highlights at the last meeting were as follows:

Council 5539:  Kiel reported plans to donate $500.00 to the local food pantry, and $1,000.00 to the St. Vincent De Paul Store to provide winter coats for those in need.  They also announced plans for a council Christmas party.

Council 11129: Sheboygan Falls reported an update on the success of the Firemen=s Picnic Fund Raiser in August, 2013, which resulted in a $500.00 share to the 4th Degree.  The council also reported on plans to hold another brat fry to raise money for an academic scholarship, and plans to distribute Keep Christ in Christmas Signs after masses in December.

Council 1789: Plymouth reported on serving as greeters for an upcoming speaking event at St John=s Parish in Plymouth.  The report also included a summary of upcoming holiday activities, such as the Women=s Craft Fair on November 2, 2013, distribution of Keep Christ in Christmas Signs, serving as bell ringers for the Salvation Army on October 29-30, 2013, hosting a Landing Day Banquet and Christmas Party at Braun=s Ranch on November 1, 2013, and hosting a Breakfast with Santa on December 15, 2013, from 7:30am-1:00pm. 

Council 722: Sheboygan The Sheboygan report from Sir Knight Francis Geller included a continuing invitation to attend their $2.00 Burger Knight social events, to be held on the third Thursdays of the month.  He invited us to show up in costume for the burger knight on October 17, 2013. He also indicated the council will be selling coupon books at the Boston Stores, and will host holiday craft events at St. Dominic=s.   

For the Good of the Order, our Faithful Friar, Father Dick Fleischman, lead us in the Our Father on behalf of members who are ill or in distress.  There were no reports concerning members who have died recently.  Members were encouraged to donate  blood during the Red Cross blood drives on October 17, 2013, an continuing on Thursdays thereafter.

Next Meeting

After prayers for the good of the order, the September meeting concluded with the prayer to St, Michael the Archangel.  The raffle winner, Geri Johnson, took home $35.50, and the November 20, 2013 meeting was scheduled at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Sheboygan, with a social hour at 6:00pm, followed by dinner and a meeting at 7:00pm.
